Meet The Team

Founder & CEO

Kyle Halmrast

About Kyle

For two decades, I have focused on the operations side of development – building capacity, in the real world and in real time. I’ve created successful major gift, annual giving, membership, prospect management, and event programs for organizations including UW Medicine, Sierra Club, Woodland Park Zoo and Sightline Institute.

Having been through the planning process for several major campaigns with goals ranging from $2 million to $2 billion, I also have extensive experience in strategic planning, campaign readiness efforts and board development. I founded The Ostara Group to help each and every client we work with reach the next level of their own organizational achievement.

Fun facts about Kyle:

  • I single-handedly moved and placed over 40 tons of granite for retaining walls, a stone patio, and a waterfall in my back yard.
  • I still hold my high school swim team’s record for the 100-yard butterfly, 30 years later.
  • My favorite thing about fly fishing is that you never know what's around the next bend in the river.

Kyle brought a strong understanding of the complexities of capital campaigns. And, he has a true ability to communicate and work effectively with a board of directors that had very limited familiarity with raising money for our new facility. Kyle presented information clearly and concisely and helped get everybody on board so that they could make an intelligent and well-substantiated decision about when and how to move forward with our campaign.

Kyle builds trust quickly and is able to cut to the heart of issues without putting his clientele on the defensive. His approach and experience give him and his team a very good sense of what organizations go through, putting it all into perspective.
